LOWERY WORKSTANDS
HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY LOWERY WORKSTAND ?
On occasion you may want to lubricate the working parts of your stand. Take a worn shirt or lightweight material and gently clean the threads of the clamp. I then apply a drop or two of sewing machine oil and turn the screw up and down. The objective is to spread the oil across the threads to insure smooth action of the mechanical parts .
WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER A CORNER CLAMP?
Some people like the Corner Clamp for very small pieces, perhaps 6” x 6” or smaller because it grips the bars on only a small part of the corner. This means that the clamp is up and out of the way so that it does not interfere. Your hand will not bump against it.
Other people prefer the Corner Clamp because of the strong grip on very larger pieces. It grabs both the side and bottom of stretcher bars at the corner thus providing exceptional grip.
Still others like the way it works with scroll bars.
WHAT IS THE EXTRA LONG “L” BAR? HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED ONE+
This accessory replaces the “L” bar that comes with your stand and will give you approximately 6 extra inches on the horizontal (where the clamp slides on). If you work in an overstuffed recliner, in a chair with large arms, in bed, or need to reach across any distance, you may want to consider an Extra Long “L” Bar. If you find that you are uncomfortable in your working area, try to figure out why, This accessory may be part of the solution.
Please remember that whenever you change the configuration of this carefully engineered workstand, you may compromise the balance. You may need to adjust for stability.
WHAT IS A TAK?
TAK stands for Table Adapter Kit. This accessory changes a floorstand (workstand) into a model that sits on the table. The kit is only replaces the “center” so you will need to use the clamp and base from your floorstand. The alternative is to purchase a second clamp (such as the Corner Clamp) and/or a second base (perhaps the extra-long base). Remember that these two items make great gift suggestions!
WHAT ARE THE USES FOR THE HOLES IN THE LIGHT BRACKET?
One of these holes is needed to connect it to your stand. One hole can be used for the (Comb) Accessory Bracket and the other can be used to hold a light. The bar can also be used with the Daylight Double Clip (to hold directions), or the large Daylight magnifier. With these two items you would not use the holes.
WHAT LIGHTS FIT THE LIGHT BRACKET?
The Daylight U23000 works well with the Lowery. People have used Dazors as well, especially the gooseneck model. Most lights that have a “thumb” should fit. Always remember to adjust to get the best balance for your stand.
HOW CAN I ADD STABILITY TO THE STAND?
If you are unable to secure your Lowery under furniture, you can add stability by adding weight to the base. Some people have used bricks and covered them with needlepoint. Any weight will do, including books, bricks, etc.
HOW LARGE A PROJECT CAN I USE WITH MY STAND?
That has not been determined exactly, but it is quite large! Large oversized Christmas stockings seem not to be a problem. One of the reasons people select Lowery is for the incredible grip, which means it can successfully hold and perform where other stands fail.
Can I use quilting hoops and Q-Snaps? You can use Q-Snaps and hoops up to about 22”. You may also use scroll frames, Evertites, as well as other brands of bars.
How tightly do I need to secure the levers ? Gentle is better! You do NOT need to use much force when securing the levers. Unlike frames with knobs that often need an extra turn, these metal screws hold with a gentle touch. You can over-tighten, which can add stress and wear on workstand parts. This is especially true of the clamp.
What do I do if I have a problem with my stand ? You can contact the store where you purchased your stand. If they can't help you, email us directly.
What kind of board do I use with the Chart or Pattern Holder? We recommend the LaRan board that can be purchased from your local needlework shop. You may want to secure your pattern with magnets.
EVERTITE STITCHERY FRAMES
WHAT ARE EVERTITE STITCHERY FRAMES?
Evertite Stitchery Frames, or “Evertites” as they are sometimes called, are wooden stretcher bars with a built in mechanism that enables you to adjust tension without removal of your canvas or linen. Read “JUST A FEW REASONS TO CHOOSE EVERTITES” to find out why this product is so remarkable.
HOW SMALL AND HOW BIG ARE FRAMES MADE?
Bars between 4” and 26” are considered STANDARD and can be used interchangeably. Bars 19” to 26” are a little huskier than the shorter bars, but this does not matter. This means that you can make squares measuring 4”x 4” or 26” x 26". You can also make a rectangle measuring 4” x 26”, OR OTHER COMBINATIONS of standard size Evertites.
WHAT ARE XX BARS?
Bars that are above 27” are considered XX bar and are special order. Bars have been made that are above 45”, so very large canvases can be accommodated. However, if you are using an XX bar, such as 32XX, the companion bar MUST also be XX. For instance, if you have a canvas that measures 32” x 16”, you must order a 32”XX bar and a 16”XX bar. You may NOT use a standard 16” Evertite Bar with a 32XX bar.
CAN I USE MY 12” BAR WITH A 29”XX BAR?
No, you will need to order a 12”XX bar.
HOW DO I ASSEMBLE THE BARS?
There is more than one way to assemble the Evertites, but however you do it, ALL HARDWARE MUST BE CONCEALED INSIDE. From the outside, these bars should look similar to regular stretcher bars and there should be no hardware visible on which to catch your threads.
Here is one way to assemble your bars: Place the bars on a flat surface ready to assemble. Turn them so the Evertite Logo is on the INSIDE on all four bars. On the horizontal bars, place the logos so you can read them. Now place the vertical bars so the logo is UPSIDE-DOWN. Put them together. Check the bars to be sure the corners are “flush” with no hardware. The corners might not fit as flush as other bars because these bars are designed to spread apart, so the look of your corner may change.
HOW DO I TIGHTEN THE BARS SO THE TENSION IS EVEN?
I usually start at the top right hand corner. There are two “holes” in this corner - one on the top and one on the side. Insert the “T” Tool in the top hole, making sure it “locks” in place. Now turn the “T” Tool three half turns (like you are turning a key). Do this in the side “hole.” Repeat on the bottom right, and work your way around the bars until you have tightened them all EIGHT ways. Now test your canvas by tapping it in the middle. You probably will have to repeat the tightening again, but you may want to decrease the number of half-turns to two, or even one. Again tighten ALL 8 WAYS. Check the tension. Repeat if necessary but for best results, keep the turn count even or about even. This will help insure that your canvas is “square.”
HOW DO I ATTACH CANVAS OR CONGRESS CLOTH TO EVERTITES?
You may want to finish the edges of your canvas before attaching. There are several ways to mount canvas, and the following is just one example The manufacturers of these bars have added mid-point lines on the tops of the bars, and these will help you successfully attach your canvas. First, find the mid-point of your canvas on two sides. Mark these points so you will be able to find them later. Next, put the top center mark of your canvas on the center mark of the bar top and secure. Then run a finger or needle down the groove to match up the centers, and secure. Repeat with the left and right sides, remembering not to place tacks too close to the ends, or they may interfere with tension control. Your canvas should be mounted “squarely” on your bars, and you can begin adjusting tension.
HOW DO I ATTACH LINEN OR OTHER SOFT FABRIC/
You attach linen by following the same directions as for canvas, but with a few changes. First, you need to make a fold at the top of the fabric so that tacks hold the fabric in more than one spot. You may even want to place a line of “paper tape” at the fold to add stability so that the fabric will not shift. You will want to do this on all four sides. When you are finished and have tightened your fabric, you will have little “ears” at each of the four corners.
I personally have found that I need to adjust tension more frequently when stitching on linen or soft counted fabric.
HOW DO I USE THE DAYLIGHT MAGNIFIERS WITH EVERTITES?
You may want to use the Daylight U91151, the longer of the two small Daylight magnifiers. Reach underneath and secure it to the thinner side of the bar and bring it up over to the top.
You may also want to try the U90942 Daylight magnifier and attach it to the Lowery Light Bracket

How often do I need to restretch or retighten my project?
You probably will not need to retighten your work very often, perhaps only one or two times, depending on the size of the project. I have found that I need to tighten counted fabric more frequently than canvas.
